With a hightop fade to boot...
August 4th, 1984 – Carl Lewis wins the gold medal in the men’s Olympic 100 meters with an astonishing kick that pushes him past American teammate Sam Graddy. Graddy settles for silver and Canada’s Ben Johnson, already on the roids as we know now, takes bronze.
It was King Carl's first Olympic gold, the first of nine that he would win in his career, and the first of four that he won in 1984. Matching Jesse Owens’ historic quadruple at the 1936 Berlin Games, Lewis went on after his 100 meters victory to win gold in the 200m, the long jump and the 4x100 relay at the L.A. Games.
One of only four Olympic athletes to win nine gold medals, Lewis is also the ONLY one to win the same individual event, the long jump, four times. Love or hate him, he is hands down the greatest track athlete of our time.
