I googled Ray Meyer and he was the coach at DePaul when they were a national powerhouse. There are a lot of great ballers from Chi-Town. Shouldn't that program have a higher profile.
Large, I trust your research accumen. Could you clear up the myth of Ty Cobb for me? Obviously he was one of the best hitters in league history. And obviously he was a 'good ol' boy' from the south with links to the Klan. Did he actually kill a guy? What is the story there?
First of all Chief, I confess to you that I got Earl Simmons confused with Curt Simmons. Curt Simmons - definitely not pictured.
My understanding is that Cobb did not kill one of his assailants in the infamous 1912 mugging. We had a historian on Classic Now when I was writing for them who corroborated that. The story grew in Cobb's own megalomanical brain over they years, and then took a similar path with Al Stump. He did, however, get the better of three dudes who tried to mug him, to the point where they apologized to him, which is some shit.
Do you know that while Cobb was first in the bigs, his mom shot and killed his dad? THAT is quite a story.
