Large Elsewhere - Jarry Park, The Sporting Blog, and Pavlik v. Taylor Liveblog
First off, let me announce that I will be writing a Pavlik Taylor Live Blog tomorrow night at The Sporting Blog. I admit that the concept of a live blog has always baffled me a little bit - who are the people who read such a thing that aren't actually watching the event in question? Then again, when it comes to a big PPV card, there are always those cheapstakes and impoverished wastrels out there who just won't plunk down the 50 bucks to watch it live, and who, I guess, don't have any rich friends they can mooch off of. And hey, maybe you just want to, you know, cuddle up next to ole Lovable Large while you watch the fight and get real close and personal. Either way - cheapskate, stalker (I need a stalker, by the way - you're NOBODY in this world until you have a stalker), or if you just happen to be out of the country or at a cocktail party or some other can't-be-avoided-type obligation crap (this is the one time in my life that I've turned to the services of a live-blog), I'll be there for you, round by agonizing round.
Now onto a few other links:
Large at Jarry Park
I did my first podcast interview in a while today with our old friend Franchise at his fight sports emporium jarrypark.com. We talked a lot of Pavlik/Taylor II, of course, but also went as far back as Povetkin/Chambers and got pretty deep into the implications of the Quintana upset for the rest of the year's boxing schedule. At the end, neither of us could remember Jean Pascal's name, which I'd like to add is more of an embarrassment for the Chise than me, because despite the fact that I'm supposed to be the boxing expert, Franchise is Canadian.
Round by Round: Boxing Notes
My weekly boxing round-up over at The Sporting Blog. Tomorrow night's fight leads off and then I get into the Quintana/Mosley and Cotto/Mayorga rumors.
This ain't your daddy's Karate Kid
So I’m watching Sportscenter last night and working on some TV crap, and the next thing I know I see a trailer for ... well, The Karate Kid. Only now Mr. Miyagi is a big black dude (who I think is a famous underwear model) with some kind of accent, Elisabeth Shue is Amber Heard, and the evil bully dude is ... he’s pretty much the same dude...

I'll be one of those poor souls reading the liveblog instead of watching the damn thing. Will anybody care if I'm staring at a Blackberry during the vows?
Just explain, el mero. I'm sure everyone will understand.
Bert Sugar in today's ESPN.com chat: "Although Pavlik looks like Olive Oyl, he hits like Popeye."
Have to tip my hat to ole Bert on that one.
Hey Large
How you feeling about the supposed Pavlik-Trinidad fight being proposed for the Puerto Rican Parade weekend in NY??
I thought that once Pavlik got done with Taylor he was supposed to face Duddy.
Does the proposed Pavlik/Tito fight help anyone or is just a fight made out of pure greed?
Large,
What is with the voices on that park thing? it sounds sort of like a cartoon (very high pitched and scratchy).
maybe its just my computer. or maybe those are your real voices, in which case my apologies.
just wondering...
If Pavlik/Trinidad happens, Trinidad will leave the ring speaking Sweedish, after he wakes up.
It's funny - just this morning I was in a long email exchange with Unsilent, who was asking me how long Pavlik would stay at 160 in that it seemed like the bigger money fights were at higher weights. And I was telling him that the Duddy bout was supposedly made and then after I imagined he would fight either Roy (who has been saying that he could still make 160, although Roy says a lot of shit he doesn't remember) or Tito at the Garden. Next thing I know, it's Tito and Pavlik at the Garden everywhere.
It's a natural fight for Pavlik, and as I told Unsilent, after Miranda and then two fights with Jermain, he deserves an easy bout. Duddy I think would be a more exciting and competitive fight, but I don't think either one of these guys is going to beat Pavlik. Trinidad has a good beard, though, and he'll at least look good in the early rounds. I think he'll get knocked out between 5-9. I'm into it - it's the grand tradition of current young champs beating up on aging legends.
Voices on the Jarry Park interview were fucked up. Franchise says he'll fix it next time. Usually my voice is a virile yet mellifluous baritone like a cross between Luther Vandross and Seal.
wow, that looks worse than the new karate kid being made with will smith jr.
and yes, i believe that guy was an underwear model.
Pavlik-Tito? Why not? I've never seen someone decapitated live on TV before...
