The Ides of January

Big day of birthdays today, starting with, of course, the Reverend of Reverends. Joining him is quite an eclectic group of sportsmen and women we celebrate today in his august shadow.

The senegalese in me wants to see ElHadji Diouf added to this list. Because by the time the guy finishes his career, he'll definitly have become an icon in NoMasLand.

I watch Diouf almost more to see the expressions on his face as what he does with the ball. He does "incredulous" like nobody else.

Yo! how cool and random that you would play for a senegalese band. Can you tell me the name of the band? maybe I know them

it was a local milwaukee youth dance troupe with live band, leader's name was lucky diop and the band was kassumai. they tour around the us a bit, i quit when i moved. we opened for femi and angelique kidjo in milwaukee which was pretty cool. yeah i was like 16, opening for femi. jeeez.

How awesome it must've been to open for femi kuti. The guy touched lives all over the world. Angelique kidjo is not bad herself.
Lucky Diop!
In senegal, when a Ndiaye (that's my name) is broke, he says "today my name is diop". And same goes for Diopses. We call it "Kal" and tease each other all the time based on our last names.
Kassumai means hello in Diola I think.

yeah kassumai means peace be with you or something in the kasumas province. i kinda tuned out the speeches, i only played bass eh? yeah opening for femi was pretty pretty cool. i mean i was like 15 or 16, standing backstage next to femi. kinda immense.
