No Mas TV Guide: 1/30

MUST-SEE NO MAS TV

Lennox Lewis Trifecta
ESPN Classic, 8 p.m.

Three, count 'em, THREE Lennox fights back-to-back-to-back on Classic tonight. These are rarely shown on Classic, and never shown anywhere else, so if you want to see them, tonight's your chance. The first fight is Lennox's bout with Tommy Morrison, aka Tommy Gunn, from 1995. It was Lewis's second bout since losing the title to Oliver McCall, and also his second bout since stealing McCall's trainer, Manny Steward. The second fight is Lennox against Shannon Briggs from 1998, and the third is his 1993 bout with Frank Bruno. All's I will tell you here if you haven't seen these fights is that all three have a lot of action and all three end in stoppages.

BEST OF THE REST

Evander Holyfield SportsCentury
ESPN Classic, 4 p.m.
This is one of the full-hour jammies, and has a lot of good footage, definitely worth a look

Happy Gilmore
AMC, 8 & 10 p.m.
Adam Sandler as a hockey goon turned golfer. Adam Sandler and Bob Barker in a bare-fisted fight to the death. A guest appearance appearance by Apollo Creed. Enough said.

ECW Wrestling
Sci-Fi Channel, 10 p.m.
The rematch nobody wants to see: ECW World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Test.

Warrior Nation
MSNBC
, 10 & 11 p.m.
The fourth and final installment in this mini-docu series looking at the growing world of MMA. Featured in this episode is the build-up to the most anticipated match in UFC history: Liddell vs. Ortiz II.

John Cena on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
CBS, 12:30 a.m.
Personally, I can't get over feeling that John Cena belongs in a gay porn movie. But hey, what do I know? Here's hoping he rips that Scottish wanker a new one either way. I can't stand that ponce.

NFL's Greatest Games: Super Bowl XXXII
ESPN2, 1 a.m.
Forget who was in this one? Well, give a click then love, and we'll set you straight. Or I'll give you a clue. It just may be... the single... greatest... moment... in the HISTORY... of... ah forget it. Broncos/Packers.

Actually, Teddy Atlas broke that on Friday Night Fights last week. Good choice, no doubt, although I'm disappointed that the whole Oedipal drama is not going to play itself out.

Kevin, Warrior Nation has been pretty good television. And I am sure they are running marathons in the coming weeks showing all four episodes so look out for that. My only complaints are that a) they never showed any UFC or Pride footage (maybe it was too expensive) but how can you fairly cover the rise of this sport without those two groups on board and b) some parts made the sport seem a little too freaky. I would recommend seeing the first one about Urijah Faber as he will be a big deal in the WEC and the third one about Gina Carrano who is a very very beautiful fighter and will be featured on the EliteXC card. Tonight's show should be interesting as it will be the first one to deal with primarily UFC topics so we will see if any footage is used...

BTW, anyone that rips on the Doctor of Thuganomics himself (John Cena) has to go through me.

Nah...just kidding.

I dug him when he was coming out with the different throwbacks a few years ago but when he layed down for K-Fed the love was over. In all honesty, he needs to turn heel (bad guy) ASAP. That's what took the Rock to the next level. He is too happy jolly now with that weak ass spinning belt.

Wow, amazing find, Kevin. Talk about Ol' school. As much as I make fun of him for his five knuckle shuffle, spinning belt, and semi-kid 'n play fade - the matching tights and boots that changed colors every city they went to was a little weak too. Amazing, how this whole rapper persona came about from him just freestyling in the back and someone thinking it would be funny if he dressed up as Vanilla Ice on the halloween show.

Kind of sad, also, to see Angle look so normal in the clip and it was only 4.5 years ago...

all the wrestling talk this week makes me miss the days of catch on french tv. Last time it was on, Tatanka, The Undertaker, bam abm Bigelow and lex Luger were the names ruling that field.
I've never even seen a rock fight

Yo MS are there French wrestlers, and if so, what are some of their names?

7:10 PM
The Franchise said...

Funny you mention those names because all of them (except Bam Bam of course) are still wrestling.

Tons of famous french wrestlers (mostly all from the great province of Quebec)

Mad Dog Vachon, Dino Bravo, the Rougeau brothers, Rick Martel, the Leducs and the man, the myth, the legend - Andre the Giant (who hailed from France, of course).

I believe Andre Roussimov was the only french wrestler to have actually crossed over. All the others are pretty underground and wrestle in a more mexican-style. Like in lucha libre, with alter egos and masks.

As far as quebequois wrestlers, I don't know anyone else except Sylvan and the pegazusse kid.

another question, is rick flair still in the picture. That guy was the best

Flair is definitely still around and he is pushin 60. He wrestles on Monday Night Raw and the crazy thing is he is still a better performer than half of these 20-something, 'roided up guys that they bring in. He even won the tag team titles with Roddy Piper last month.

As for the Pegasus Kid, most people nowadays know him as Chris Benoit. He was born in Montreal but at a very very young age he moved to Edmonton so that is where they say he is from. Without a doubt the best technical wrestler of the last decade. Very much like The Dynamite Kid - but better...
