Bank on it

People I know it's crazy, but Large is reaching deep for this one - I predict that Calvin Brock will take Wlad Klitschko's IBF and IBO heavyweight belts at the Garden tomorrow night. Brock is a heavy underdog. Last I checked the Vegas odds, a hundred on Brock was winning you $330. Large doesn't gamble (anymore) but if he did, he would be sorely tempted to put down a few bills on The Banker. He's got power in both hands, he's got a chin, and he's big enough to stay close to Wlad and push him around the ring a little. Klitschko is soft at the core. Brock will expose that the same way Sam Peter did, but he'll have the skills and the size to back it up. Only thing that makes me nervous is Manny Steward, but the one thing he can't give a fighter is heart.

Large himself will be at the bout on some HBO muscle. Look for me. I'll be the one with my arms folded, giving the slow "how you like me now?" nod as they read the UD for C.B. and the belts change hands. Then we can start thinking Brock/Briggs and get a little mo back with the big boys.

LARGE SAYS - Brock in a unanimous decision. Wlad hits the canvas sometime around the 9th.

It's damn hard to make that call. I want Brock to win via Ring Magazine's KO of the Year with that awesome right hand of his, but I keep thinking Wladmir will pull it off in a rather disapointing fashion a la The Nigerian Nightmare, but even more embarassing this time. I'd put money on it, but A. I'm too poor til I graduate from college and get a real job and B. I'm incredibly indecisive especially when it comes to making decisions in boxing. Football's my betting sport. Somehow I land at least two ten teamer bets a year then blow it on one kick ass party or an apartment security deposit. All I can hope is that either win results in the next fight being a title unification. However, I'm a huge fan of The Easton Assassin and Brock reminds me of him in the sence that Holmes didn't look impressive til he defeated Roy "Tiger" Williams. Much like I wasn't sold by Brock until he came back rather impressivly against Big Time McCline after that mid-fight knockdown. All in all GO BROCK! I'll be watching the fight from my friend's frat house at Lebanon Valley College (thank God I go to a real college {kinda} at IUP ). Enjoy it live Large!

Comparing The Banker to Larry? That's... well that's only slightly more blasphemous than saying Wlad would give Ali a good go of it. But I like Brock, so I'll let you slide. And the Tiger Williams/Big Time McCline is an interesting comparison (Tiger Williams, btw, one of Philly's phinest). Larry's pedigree was sparring with The Greatest, Brock's is Olympic. Larry, though - Larry was one of the true greats. I don't see the Banker ever reaching that stratosphere. But look, Czar K., I'm glad you're on the right side on this one. I'll think we'll see a better fight than the Peter escapade for sure. I'll post some pics of the HBO pre-party and the fight on Sunday.
