Sport Magazine
The graphic on this shirt comes from the 80s era masthead of SPORT magazine, the first American periodical of its kind. From its debut on newstands in 1946, SPORT was to sports what The New Yorker was to culture at large, a gathering place of the best writers in the genre – Grantland Rice, Roger Kahn and one-time editor Dick Schaap among them – and a forum for long-form, deeply considered articles that regularly expanded our notion of “sports-writing.” For all who like to take their sports with a hefty side of literature (and vice versa), the SPORT archives remain an endless font of wisdom and entertainment. Here at No Mas, we consider them as rudimentary to the canon as Shakespeare.
