The Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas.  Even the words conjure images in the mind of The Rat Pack, mobsters, the first topless showgirls on the Strip, and ruthless crooks overseeing the the day-to-day- operations of and skimming millions from casinos, a story later told through the fictional Tangiers Casino by Martin Scorcese in Casino.

For fight fans, the Stardust’s historical moment nonpareil came in 1965, when Muhammad Ali set up camp in the hotel’s ballroom to train for his bout with Floyd Patterson.  For weeks those training sessions were a hotter ticket than Sinatra at the Sands, as fans forked over a dollar a head to watch the Champ spar, sass and generally harass anyone within earshot who dared suggest that he was not …The Greatest of All Tiiiiiiiime!™
