ZAIRE '74
This is an officially licensed reproduction of the official concert t-shirt worn by performers and staff during the epic three day Zaire '74 concert in Kinshasa.
Originally scheduled to share billing (and customers) with the Rumble in the Jungle, promoters Hugh Masekala and Stewart Levine were forced to go it alone when a cut over George Foreman's eye delayed the fight. The concert was financially disastrous but creatively stupendous as a legendary lineup of African-American musicians brought the "fruit to the root" including Bill Withers, The Spinners, BB King and the one and only Godfather of Soul himself: James Brown.
You can see glimpses of the tee in the trailer from "Soul Power", the must watch doc made from original concert footage and released in 2009.
The Zaire '74 shirt is reproduced exclusively for No Mas by Deborah Goldstein (Miss Wit Designs), the niece of original concert promoter, Stewart Levine.
