The Ballad of Kid Dynamite 2009

$750.00

The Ballad of Kid Dynamite is a highly detailed, mixed media miniature diorama contained in a battered, ring box. Much like the warrior depicted, the outside is scarred and rough around the edges. The inside, complex and multi-layered; an accurate depiction of the Icon. Kid Dynamite is positioned with his back to the memory pond. The pond reflects visuals of significant moments and characters from his past. As he pummels yet another competitor the recognizable Nintendo audience looks on as much as we did, wide eyed and in awe. A quote from Mike's greatest mentor Cus D'Amato, " the coward and the hero are afraid", appears in a cartoon Lichtenstein . The artist chose to place a small angel ascending into the sky to represent Kid's greatest and most recent loss, that of his daughter.

Curtis Santiago was a child when he first witnessed Mike Tyson paint a master piece with his fists. Since that first time he knew he had seen something legendary and truly contemporary. In 2007 Curtis predicted a pop culture resurgence of Kid Dynamite. In stride with that foresight his documentary reached the silver screen and Mike was featured with the G.O.A.T on the coveted cover of EA Sports Boxing. This piece is the advent of a series of works who according to Curtis depict the life of the most exciting Gladiator of 20th century.
